About the Organization

Kentucky IPL is a community of congregations, faith-based organizations, and individuals of faith responding to climate change as a moral issue through advocacy, education, energy conservation, energy efficiency, stewardship, and the use and promotion of clean, renewable energy.


Mission: To mobilize a religious response to climate change through conservation, efficiency, and alternative energy. 


Position Summary

As Executive Director, you will be responsible for the overall direction and management of the organization to achieve its mission, vision, and strategic goals. The ideal candidate will have substantive experience in non-profit conservation or faith-based organizations; be a proven fundraiser; have strong outreach and managerial skills; and be passionate about Kentucky IPL’s mission.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Non-Profit Management

  • Advance the organization’s mission.

  • Remain abreast of pertinent federal, state, and local environmental issues in the region.

  • Maintain consistent and constructive communication with the board, and engage individual board members in appropriate programmatic and fundraising activities.

  • Develop annual budget for Board approval. Produce financial reports to the Board in partnership with the Board Treasurer.

  • Hire and supervise staff, conduct evaluations, provide for professional development, and maintain a positive working environment.

  • Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.


Development and Fundraising

  • Develop effective and meaningful relationships with major donors. 

  • Expand the existing donor network and create new opportunities with individuals, businesses and community organizations.

  • Oversee fundraising appeals and special events.

  • Secure foundation, denominational, and program campaign grants.


Outreach and Communications

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with a wide range of religious leaders, faith communities, policymakers and other stakeholders.

  • Represent the organization in coalitions, public meetings, hearings, and press events.

  • Oversee all aspects of the organization’s external communications, maintaining a strong organizational reputation and unique brand.

  • Organize and facilitate programming for faith groups and the public.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ideal candidate will have 8+ years of substantive experience in environmental or faith-based non-profit organizations. 

  • Experience working with congregations and religious institutions preferred.

  • Knowledge of faith issues and environmental policy.

  • Proven success in fundraising. 

  • Experience making financial, managerial, and programmatic decisions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are required.

Salary Range

Starting compensation between $30,000 - $45,500 annually. 

  • Salary to be commensurate with skills, experience and number of hours agreed upon.

  • Position is part- or full-time (25 - 40 hours a week) and will include some weekends and evenings.

  • Potential for salary increase in subsequent years based on fundraising success.

  • This is a non-benefited position.
