Wilmore United Methodist Church

Wilmore United has placed several recycling bins throughout the church, replaced plastic plates with paper ones, and begun e-mailing the monthly newsletter rather than sending it by regular ground mail. "I don't know that we're saving a lot of money yet," says Community member Mary Miller, "but at least we have interest and a little motivation to start making some changes."
Miller recommends Nancy Sleeth's book, Go Green, Save Green: A Simple Guide to Saving Time, Money, and God's Green Earth, It "not only gives valuable information about ways we can make changes to save energy and care for our earth but shows a way of life that inspires greater faith, rest and renewal, and an awareness of love, beauty, hospitality, and sharing."
The folks at Wilmore United Methodist are caring for God's creation by entering the Cool Congregations contest. Miller says, "I am hoping the contest will be motivation for us to work harder. There is no way a church can lose if it reduces its costs and decreases energy use."
Wilmore UMC members are also involved in a community-wide group, according to Miller. "In our community we have an ecumenical Creation Care group, and we are trying to do a lot to educate the public and take on projects ourselves such as a community gardening and recycling at community events."
Wilmore residents, Matthew and Nancy Sleeth, who also head up Blessed Earth are active in the Creation Care group.
