World Car Free Day of Prayer
WCFD Kentucky IPL is planning a big event for World Car Free Day 2009. Since transportation makes up 30% of carbon emissions, supporting alternative forms of transportation is an important way to care for creation. By walking, biking and riding on the bus, we lower our impact on the environment.

Join us for any part of the bus ride on September 22 - World Car Free Day

Email us or call 210-8920 for information on where to catch the buses or where to meet for prayer.
Participants include:

  • Tim Darst, Executive Director Kentucky Interfaith Power & Light, Inc.
  • Ursuline Sisters of Louisville
  • Terry Taylor, Executive Director of Interfaith Paths to Peace
  • Buddhist Monk from the Drepung Gomang Institute
  • Sr. Jane Anne Comerford
  • and others

"Today the great gift of God's Creation is exposed to serious dangers and lifestyles which can degrade it. Environmental pollution is making particularly unsustainable the lives of the poor of the world ... we must pledge ourselves to take care of creation and to share its resources in solidarity." - Pope Benedict XVI

Many vulnerable people will be hurt by climate change.
"It is the poorest of the poor in the world, and this includes poor people even in prosperous societies, who are going to be the worst hit. This does become a global responsibility in my view." Rajendra Pachauri, Chairman UN IPCC
We must pray for those whose lives will be destroyed by the effects of climate change.
"Many diseases will surge as the atmosphere heats up." Scientific American August 2000
