Burnamwood Camp and Conference Center

From http://www.burnamwood.net/:

Burnamwood is embarking upon an important and necessary upgrade of its kitchen and we need your help!

For many years, all meals at Burnamwood have been served using disposable plates, cups and utensils. Because we have not had the capacity to wash large quantities of dishes, we purchase and throw away -- three times per day -- hundreds of Styrofoam plates and cups, plastic forks, knives and spoons. We throw then in a dumpster and then pay to have them hauled off to a landfill, where they remain, literally, for thousands of years. It is expensive, wasteful and environmentally unconscionable.

With your help, all that will change this summer. Our plan is to purchase a commercial-grade dishwasher along with reusable trays, cups and utensils. Our waste will be reduced almost to zero - the only thing a camper will throw away is his or her paper napkin!

In the long run, our investment will pay for itself many times over, but we are hopeful you will help us with the initial cost. All donations will be deposited in a special account called "The Green Fund." The proceeds will be used to pay for the kitchen upgrades, and any funds remaining will be used solely for other environmentally conscious improvements at the Camp. Very soon, we hope to develop an extensive recycling program and will be reducing our energy consumption by converting to fluorescent lighting in our buildings, installing timers and motion detectors on lights, gradually replacing leaky windows and improving insulation. And our future curriculum will include a component on the importance of preserving and protecting God's Earth.

The Earth is God's creation and we are blessed to own several hundred of the most beautiful acres on this fantastic planet. Thank you for helping us improve our Camp by contributing to The Green Fund and assisting in this great project.
