As we move into the 21st Century we humans face enormous challenges and must make some critical choices. In particular, the choices made during the next decade about how to power our future will have long-lasting effects on human history. Reducing our carbon footprint - individually and globally - is essential to us, both as citizens and as believers. Our faith journey calls each of us to "read the signs of the times" and to take on the responsibility of making the needed changes today. This workshop affirms that through increasing energy conservation and efficiency and with a serious move toward renewable energy our society can experience a true renaissance and each of us an "energized faith". Join us as we explore ways to cut your energy use in half and look at a variety of simple changes you can make to reduce your carbon footprint - in eating, in driving, and in shopping. Don't Miss KIPL Annual Awards Dinner! Friday May 13 6:30 pm Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light Annual Awards Dinner featuring Sr. Paula Gonzalez. Her topic will be: Roll Up Your Sleeves - Stories of Action and Hope! Location: First Unitarian Church 807 South Fourth St. Tickets are $25 - Click here for tickets. This year's annual Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light dinner will feature guest speaker Sr. Paula Gonzalez, a pioneer in the faith based response to global warming and co-founder of Ohio Interfaith Power and Light. In addition, Kentucky faith-based responses to global warming and energy conservation will once again be honored at this year's Kippie Awards. Dinner will feature local and organic vegetarian fare. Among the greatest challenges humanity faces is the rapid warming of both land and oceans. Our speaker, Sr. Paula Gonzalez, has found that addressing this global challenge in the context of our religious and spiritual lives invites us to a more integrative and contemplative spirituality. Her presentation will explore the "sustainability revolution" with a focus on success stories emerging from faith communities and the impact of this work on the participants. The air that you are breathing is truly the fundamental element for life on this planet. It is needed by every living thing, human and non-human. It is a generational compact - the oxygen molecules we breathe today are the same ones breathed by our grandparents, and their grandparents. It is also what Jesus, the Buddha, Moses, and Mohammed breathed. But what if that air is unhealthy? What if it enters your lungs accompanied by toxins that are harmful to your body? Pollution has no political, cultural, or geographical boundaries. It is passed on from generation to generation. Much of the carbon dioxide released during the industrial revolution is still in the atmosphere today. What we emit today will last one hundred years.
