Fighting Goliath Film Screenings

This month, KIPL will be showing the state-wide premier of a  new version of the documenary Fighting Goliath:Texas Coal Wars. The premier showing is tentatively set for 7p.m. December 28 at Highland Baptist Church, 1101 Cherokee Road in Louisville. The filmmaker is currently putting the final touches on the film that will include "the faith community voice."  We are planning screenings across the state and will notify you of the details as they develop.

Narrated by Robert Redford and co-produced by The Redford Center at the Sundance Preserve and Alpheus Media, Fighting Goliath: Texas Coal Wars, follows the story of Texans fighting a high-stakes battle for clean air. The film introduces the unlikely partners - mayors, ranchers, CEOs, community groups, legislators, lawyers, and citizens - that came together to oppose the construction of 19 conventional coal-fired power plants that were slated to be built in Eastern and Central Texas and that were being fast-tracked by the Governor.

E-mail us if you would like a screening at your congregation.

A Bright Idea

One for Each Night - Hannukah Guide - This is the original CFL holiday study guide. The guide outlines reasons for switching to CFLs, the environmental impacts of electricity generation, and the Jewish community's responsibility to care for God's creation. Each night of Hannukah, switch out one of your regular incandescent bulbs with a CFL, then read the study guide entry, which includes information, a prayer, and even a light bulb joke! Use it as a fundraiser with your congregation, including the guide with a pack of 8 CFLs!

Preparing for a New Light - Advent Guide - Based on the "One for Each Night" guide, this guide helps the Christian community prepare for Christmas by replacing incandescent bulbs with CFLs on the Sundays of Advent. Each entry includes information on the environmental advantages of CFLs, relevant scripture passages, and a prayer. Use it as a fundraiser with your congregation, including the guide with a pack of 5 CFLs!
